Poem for
Lady
1998-2000

'Why
cry over a holiday cat? they said
Silly woman must have nothing better to do'
I make no apology - I loved her
And consuming grief does not come cheap.
You
should know too, that her brief life
Was perfect in its simple way
She did what most cats have to do
And managed all with matchless grace.
Her
white green eyes looked back through time
Was she an ancient Pharaoh's cat?
Had she some 'mystery divine'
And powers at which we only guessed?
But
in the end she was my friend
So wild and sweet and zany
And who could not but shed a tear
For such a charming 'Lady'
