The closure of some hotels during the 5 months of the low season causes great distress and often results in the death of the hotel cats concerned.

The cats have been used to regular feeding from guests and the hotel - now they have to exist some how from April until early November. They will search for food and leave their usual sites sometimes invading the hotels which are still open.  Here they are often unwanted and hotels can and do resort to the old methods of poisoning,  or netting and abandoning the cats in the bush to get rid of the hungry animals.

The beach dogs suffer the same difficulties and many disperse. Some re-appear when the season re-starts, many don't.

In both cases GambiCats helps by providing food - 2 meals a day for the cats - at sites away from the hotels which are open and where they are unwanted.  This also enables us to keep an eye on their condition and help if any are sick.

We recruit trustworthy feeders and pay for their transport to the feeding sites, as well as the food.
