CAT CAFES
Cat
Cafes are areas designated by hotels, away from
restaurants
and kitchens, where cats can be fed and cared for. They
provide
a focal point for the cats and make it easier to monitor their
health
and spot any
newcomers (without tipped
left ears) who need to be caught
and neutered.
Those guests
who like cats can feed them at
the Cafe, those who do not
like them
are not antagonised
by cats begging for food in the
restaurant. Hotel managers
are usually supportive of Cat
Cafes
on hygiene grounds. To be successful there needs
to be notices in the restaurant
area explaining that there is a
Cat Cafe, what its purpose is
and where it is
located, and
requesting guests not to feed cats in the
restaurant. The hotel
should also keep the Cafe clean and fresh
water should always be available.

2004 SECOND CAT CAFE IN THE GAMBIA!
The cats around the Scala Restaurant have joined GambiCats and now have a
splendid Cat Cafe -
the biggest in The Gambia. The owner John generously provided the thatched space
and puts
down food but if you are near do go and say hello to the cats and John. The
Scala is next to
the Holiday Beach Hotel entrance, and near the Tafbel.
