STRAY DOGS AT BANJUL PORT

During January 2006 some 40 dogs living in and around the port of Banjul were caught, neutered, given anti-rabies injections, microchipped, ear-notched and checked over. This was the third stray dog programme undertaken by GambiCats - the first 2 having concentrated on beach dogs in 2003 and 2005.

The team comprised vets John Edwards and Plunkett McGovern, vet nurse Suzanne Jones (who was with the 2003 programme), dog handlers Foday Camera and Alajie Ndong, together with GambiCats' Coordinator Dodou Bojang and trustees Peter & Frances Miller. Additional support was given by Pam Pitman and Fansu Bojang.

The programme was carried out at the invitation of the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) and the Gambia Port Authority (GPA) and special thanks are due to Matar E Charreh (DLS) and Suleiman Bah (GPA) for providing such splendid facilities for the operations and other support services.
